Lake Powell

A relatively short drive from Cottonwood took us back up to Lone Rock Campground on Lake Powell. I had wanted to explore the slot canyons in the area but couldn’t find any easy boondocking so we came back to the same spot we stayed in this past spring. The views of the Lake here are pretty incredible. The full moon made for some great photos.

I hiked Buckskin Gulch from the Wirepass Trailhead which is described as the longest and deepest in the Southwest. Backpacker Magazine called it one of the ten deadliest hikes in the US.

Jaime joined me to explore Waterholes Canyon outside of Page, AZ.

We also did a very long Jeep trip from Lake Powell to the town of Escalante. The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is huge.

After a long day of off-roading, we decided to circle back on Hwy 12 to Hwy 89 through Kanab.

Hwy 12 goes by Bryce Canyon National Park and features similar red rock formations. We could probably spend a month in this area and barely scratch the surface of all there is to see.

These weirdly wonderful rock formations were on a nearby hike.

Some views of the Lake from the Rim Trail in Page.

    1. Thanks Keng. Definitely beautiful places.

  2. Just so you know, there is a facebook community page for Grand Staircase Escalante. It is an awesome place to be…you could be there for years and not see everything.

    1. Thanks, Laura. It is indeed an awesome place. Can’t wait to go back.
